BASEMENT REMODEL DETAILS
Water invaded four times, but each setback became an upgrade opportunity.
In 2012 Hurricane Sandy filled our basement with ten inches of water, forcing a full gut: out went the drop ceiling, glued-down Berber, and awkward layout. We dry-locked the walls, reframed the space and installed a corner gas fireplace. In addition, we also added an L-shaped stone bar built around two whiskey barrels and luxury vinyl plank flooring. The half-bath and laundry moved to the back, while vintage bookshelves salvaged from Ephrata’s iconic Doneckers Building found new life as storage.
Leaks in 2019 and 2020 prompted smarter protection. Dual sump pits, a water softener and upgraded ductwork. The final challenge struck in 2021 when the up-flush pump failed mid-install. Instead of patching, we opened the bar for better flow, relocated the laundry and created a barn-door half bath tiled floor-to-ceiling and accented in reclaimed barnwood. A fresh run of LVP unified the entire level.
Today this modern-farmhouse retreat is as functional as it is flood-ready. Want a basement that can weather anything and still feel like home? Book a free Discovery Call or browse the curated fixtures we used on Facebook Marketplace.
